The Titans confirmed Monday that they formally interviewed OL coach Mike Munchak for their head-coaching vacancy. Munchak is considered one of the top candidates for the job.
The Titans parted ways with Jeff Fisher last Thursday after 16-plus seasons. In addition to Fisher, four other assistants have left the Titans, including defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil (who was fired) and D-line coach Jim Washburn (who went to the Eagles to fill the same role).
Munchak is a Hall of Fame guard who has spent 14 seasons as the team's offensive line coach.
The Titans have to satisfy the Rooney Rule, and according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, they have scheduled an interview with Cowboys wide receivers coach Ray Sherman to do so.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Titans plan to interview the team's offensive coordinator, Mike Heimerdinger, on Tuesday.
The way we see it
All signs point to Munchak, a veteran of the staff, becoming the team's next head coach. The Titans owe Fisher $8 million, and Munchak would likely keep most of what is left of the current staff, saving owner Bud Adams some money. The first thing Munchak likely would be asked to do as head coach is help the team find a new quarterback to replace Vince Young.
