Burress to be released from jail in June

Former Giants WR Plaxico Burress will be released from prison June 6, three months early.

A committee of prison-system staffers decided that Burress could be freed after serving 21 months of his two-year sentence because of good behavior, according to system spokeswoman Linda Foglia.

Burress was arrested in November 2008 after a gun tucked in his pants fired, injuring his thigh. The gun wasn't licensed in New York or New Jersey, and Burress pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon in August 2009.

"The future is very bright for Plaxico," agent Drew Rosenhaus said in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

Burress, 33, has four career seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards.
