While the Steelers and Packers prepare to play Super Bowl XLV in the immaculate Cowboys Stadium, plans are being put in place to build a stadium in Los Angeles.
Farmers Insurance Group has partnered with AEG, a sports and entertainment presenter, for naming rights for a new downtown Los Angeles football stadium and event center.
It's a 30-year deal with naming rights for a 1.7 million square foot stadium that will be called Farmers Field.
"This groundbreaking agreement with Farmers not only makes this the largest long-term commitment in naming rights history, it also signals the most significant step forward in creating the football stadium and event center and bringing an NFL team back to Los Angeles," Timothy J. Leiweke, President and Chief Executive Officer of AEG, said in the press release from AEG.
"This investment will court the NFL and bring jobs and economic development to downtown Los Angeles," said Bob Woudstra, Chief Executive Officer of Farmers Insurance.
The NFL was last in Los Angeles in 1994 before the Rams moved to St. Louis and the Raiders moved to Oakland.
The way we see it
This agreement for the stadium makes bringing the NFL back to Los Angeles as real of a possibility as it has been in many years. Based on what happens in the coming months regarding a new stadium for the Vikings in Minneapolis, they could be a candidate to move to L.A.
