Overview: As a group, the players selected with the sixth pick in the draft have not been as impressive as many would expect with such a high pick. PFW found that the No. 6 pick, which is held this year by the Browns, has been extremely hit or miss in the past 10 years:
2010: Seahawks select Oklahoma State OT Russell Okung
Ankle injuries limited Okung as a rookie, but he is still widely expected to become one of the league's elite left tackles. He turned in an impressive performance against Bears DE Julius Peppers and started in Seattle's final seven games.
2009: Bengals select Alabama OT Andre Smith
A pair of foot injuries have limited Smith's chances to show what he can do. He made one start before injuring his foot in his rookie season. Last season, he had started three consecutive games before going on I.R. with a broken foot.
2008: Jets select Ohio State LB Vernon Gholston
Gholston never developed into the type of player he projected to be coming out of college and was cut by the Jets in early March. He made only five starts in three seasons with New York and failed to record a single sack.
2007: Redskins select LSU SS LaRon Landry
Landry jumped right into the mix his rookie season with Washington. He started all 16 games in '07 and had a career-high 95 tackles. He has been a productive safety over the course of his career with a knack for taking down the ballcarrier.
2006: 49ers select Maryland TE Vernon Davis
Davis started slow, but has really come into his own the past two seasons. Having not missed a game in three years, Davis' best season came in '09 when he reeled in 78 catches for 965 and 13 touchdowns, all career highs.
2005: Titans select West Virginia CB Adam Jones
Formerly known as "Pacman," Jones has become better known for his off-the-field troubles than his production on Sundays. He sat out the '07 and '09 seasons before joining the Bengals in '10. The once-promising player has made seven starts since '06.
2004: Browns select Miami (Fla.) TE Kellen Winslow
It took Winslow a little while to get going but he eventually did develop into a top-flight receiving tight end. He made the Pro Bowl in '07 with an 82-1,106-5 campaign and has caught five TD passes each of the past two seasons with the rising Buccaneers.
2003: Saints select Georgia DT Johnathan Sullivan
Sullivan made 12 starts in 14 games his rookie season in New Orleans, finishing the campaign with 34 tackles and one sack. That turned out to be his most productive season, as Sullivan was out of the league three years later.
2002: Chiefs select North Carolina DT Ryan Sims
Sims spent five seasons in Kansas City before being traded to the Buccaneers in '07. He played sparingly in Tampa Bay until '09, when he started all 16 games and recorded 33 tackles. He was released by the team midway through the '10 season.
2001: Patriots select Georgia DT Richard Seymour
It didn't take Seymour long to adjust to the NFL. After making 10 starts and three sacks his rookie season, Seymour went on to be become a perennial Pro Bowler (2002-06) and a defensive leader on three Super Bowl-champion teams in New England. He was traded to the Raiders in ’09 for a first-round pick (No. 17 in ’10).
