Portis wants to return, but do Redskins want him?

RB Clinton Portis told media members this week that he's not done, but you have to wonder what, if any, his role would be in Washington in 2011. Portis has played in only 13 games the past two seasons and is owed more than $8 million next season. With the relative emergence of Ryan Torain, Portis will not return to D.C. as a featured back. He also will turn 30 prior to next season, and Portis had a Herculean workload early in his career that started his downturn when he was 28. Torain is a big, hard runner with surprising juice, but he too has been injury-prone in his career. Although Keiland Williams has had some moments this season, he might not ever be more than a complementary piece. Portis could come back if he's willing to accept a steep pay cut and a third-down type of role, where his fine pass blocking could be valuable, but it's not clear whether he would swallow his pride and do that. If not, add running back to the list of positions the Redskins must address in the offseason.
