Bears QB Collins has shoulder injury

If the Bears had advanced to the Super Bowl, they might have been down to one healthy quarterback.

It was revealed Monday that Jay Cutler sprained his left medial collateral ligament, and an NFL.com report indicates Todd Collins, who replaced Cutler in the third quarter, suffered a shoulder injury when he was hit by Packers NT B.J. Raji on his final snap of the game. The report says Collins will undergo an MRI and that the injury might require surgery.

Collins was replaced by Caleb Hanie after that play and it was initially believed that Collins was pulled for performance reasons. Head coach Lovie Smith didn't even hint during his press conference Monday that Collins' health was a factor in the decision to take him out of the game.

"I like our evaluation of our quarterbacks," Smith said. "You have a No. 1, if he goes down, you have a No. 2, and if that doesn't work, you're able to go to your No. 3. We were able to do that and we ended up with our No. 3 and he was able to put us in position to possibly win this game. I like our evaluation of our quarterbacks right now."

Collins, 39, is due to become a free agent this offseason.
