UK notes: Minter says Cats have a lot of work to do on defense

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Kentucky's 27-10 loss to Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl on Saturday showed new UK defensive boss Rick Minter just how much work he has ahead of him.

The Wildcats gave up 261 rushing yards and allowed the Panthers to convert on 50 percent (six of 12) of their third downs.

Minter said the Panthers gave his defense a "butt whippin.' "

"What I saw on the football field today, while I'm not discouraged, it was totally unacceptable," Minter said. "We came here to try and stop the run, and it's hard to do in a short period of time, but we will get it done. I don't question their effort. But we've got to tackle a whole lot better in space."

The UK defense did have an interception on its first series and appeared to have a second consecutive turnover, only to have a fumbled lateral call overturned.
