NFL players are locked out of their team facilities due to the ongoing labor negotiations, but that hasn't stopped some players from meeting up with teammates and getting work done.
The Sacramento Bee reported on Monday that 49ers OLT Joe Staley and DE Justin Smith have organized a gathering of a dozen or so players, mostly linemen and linebackers, regularly since the league locked out the players on March 11.
"We're professional athletes, Staley said to the newspaper. "We get paid to work out and stay in shape."
Across the country, Titans CB Cortland Finnegan, TE Craig Stevens and SS Chris Hope have been working out at a high school in Nashville. According to the Tennessean, the trio hopes that 15 or 20 of their teammates will return in the coming weeks to stay in shape as they await the conclusion of the lockout.
The way we see it
While the 49ers and Titans are mentioned in the newspapers, it's likely that groups of players all across the country are training with teammates as they await a new CBA. But these two teams especially, since both have new head coaches, should be pleased to read that some of their players are training on their own.
