CBA work being done during holiday weekend

The owners and players are not meeting again until Tuesday in New York, but work is still being done during the holiday weekend on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

League spokesman Greg Aiello tweeted on Saturday that the NFL and NFLPA negotiators are not taking the weekend off. "Lawyers are drafting language for potential agreement, sharing it with PA. All kinds of phone, email exchanges going on. Work continues," he tweeted.

The two sides went late into the night on Thursday to get back on track after negotiations reportedly took a step backward. They met again Friday morning and are scheduled to resume talks Tuesday in New York for another set of four consecutive days of meetings.

The way we see it

A big question throughout the lockout has been, why halt the talks at all? Why not stay in negotiations until a deal gets done? Unfortunately, it's more complicated than that, and the players and owners did show a serious commitment during Thursday's marathon, but it has frustrated fans that negotiations would ever take a break. It is positive to see that no one is taking the weekend off and that progress will continue to be made as we wait for the lockout to end.
