Talib's trial set for March 2012

Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib won't have to go to court on his charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon until after the 2011 NFL season.

Talib's attorney Frank Perez told Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times that the trial will begin March 26, 2012. Talib was indicted on felony charges on May 28. He is accused of shooting at his sister's boyfriend during a March 21 domestic dispute.

The league has said it will punish players for violating the personal-conduct policy, even during the lockout, and commissioner Roger Goodell does not need to wait for a conviction before making that decision.

The way we see it

While Talib is still facing a likely suspension, the Bucs don't have to worry about the trial being a distraction during the season. PFW reported in April that no decision on Talib's future with the team would be made until his court case is complete, so all signs are pointing to him spending another season in Tampa.
