Raiders hire Jackson as head coach

As expected, the Raiders have hired Hue Jackson as the team's new head coach. He will be introduced on Tuesday.

Jackson joined the Raiders in 2010 as the team's offensive coordinator after two seasons with the Ravens as their quarterbacks coach. The Raiders were 10th in the league in yards per game, second in rushing yards per game and 23rd in passing yards per game with Jackson in charge of the offfense.

Owner Al Davis fired head coach Tom Cable at the end of the season despite Cable leading the team to its best record (8-8) since the 2002 team that won the AFC championship.

The Raiders reportedly parted ways with defensive coordinator John Marshall over the weekend. On offense, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Al Saunders, a senior offensive assistant with the Ravens, will likely be the Raiders' new offensive coordinator.

The way we see it

In his first year calling plays for the Raiders, Jackson helped the team improve from 31st to sixth in the league in points per game. It had been rumored since earlier in the season that Jackson would take over if Davis did not pick up Cable's option. As good as the running game was under Jackson, he'll need to improve the passing game, and the team hopes he can get QB Jason Campbell to the level that Davis wanted when he acquired the former Redskin.
