Report: Raiders part ways with D-coordinator Marshall

Defensive coordinator John Marshall will not be returning to the Raiders in 2011, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday.

Owner Al Davis, who fired head coach Tom Cable, has decided to move in a different direction. The Raiders, who went 8-8 this season, improved to rank as the league's 11th best defense.

Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is expected to be named the team's next head coach.

The way we see it

It's a bit surprising to see so many changes at the top in Oakland after the team posted an 8-8 record, the best since the 2002 AFC championship team. But Davis clearly wants Jackson to take over. The offense was 10th in the league in 2010. Some teams that still have a vacancy at defensive coordinator could make a run at Marshall, who has lots of experience in the NFL.
