A leader on offense and one of the longest tenured Bears players, C Olin Kreutz played a key role in helping Chicago weather the storm of shuffling pieces on the offensive line in the first half of the season. The 13th-year veteran spoke to the media earlier this week at Halas Hall and discussed what went wrong when the Bears allowed QB Jay Cutler to be sacked six times against the Packers in Week 17 and whether or not he'll impart any words of wisdom on the team's younger players as many of them prepare for their first playoff appearance.
Was the Green Bay game difficult for the offensive line because you guys didn't show everything (you could have) on offense?
Kreutz: No, we were playing to win that game. It was difficult because they made it difficult. I'm not taking anything away from Green Bay. They came out and played and they kicked our (butts).
A lot of your teammates haven't been to the playoffs before. Sometimes nothing needs to be said, but is this a time where you offer some advice to players who have never been there before?
Kreutz: If you're in this locker room, you've played at a high level of football. (The playoffs are) the highest level of football there is, but like we said, Green Bay's atmosphere — that's playoff football, so everybody in this locker room should know what playoff football is now.
Do defenders look to hurt quarterbacks in the playoffs more than they do in the regular season?
Kreutz: It's playoff football. Guys are coming and they're coming hard. You may risk fines that you wouldn't risk in the regular season. That's just something that you have to understand when you play.
