Broncos finally limiting power of head coach

The Broncos have a history of giving their head coaches lots of power. Mike Shanahan nearly had complete control over personnel decisions during his tenure and, after the organization stated otherwise, Josh McDaniels ended up with the same control. We hear the addition of John Elway as the executive vice president of football operations has led the Broncos to finally break that trend. With owner Pat Bowlen heavily involved in the labor negotiations and president Joe Ellis focused on the business side, personnel decisions have been left to Elway, general manager Brian Xanders and head coach John Fox. A daily team observer said that the three have been working well together throughout the whole process and that their opinions have meshed nicely. Elway will have the final call on any dispute, which is a different organizational setup than the Broncos have had in a long time.
